Johnston-Kelly Park
When a fifth-grade teacher at View Ridge Elementary wanted to educate her pupils about biodiversity, she created this park in 1993. A neighbor who came to see the class advised that they clean the green belt near the school. The pupils were enthusiastic about the concept.

A developer constructed a road and a pond to collect water runoff. Rocky Waters, a strategically positioned creek bed, and Marshtopia, a mitigation pond, have now been named by the children.

Paths and an amphitheater have been added over the years by new 5th students. To obtain his Eagle Scout Award, a Boy Scout built a bridge across the park’s brook. The park has been transformed into an outdoor school where children perform plays and studies. Every year, third-grade students help the Parks Department apply fresh bark on the paths. A Native Plant Demonstration Garden near the amphitheater will be the newest addition. 4.8 acres in size
